Shadowing the Company Manager of Anastasia was a really great experience. I got the chance to not only get a tour of the backstage area and the deck, but also was able to meet some of the staff such as the Wardrobe Supervisor, Hair Supervisor, and the Stage Management team. As a Stage Manager, and someone who hopes to be a Stage Manager on Broadway, this was the most exciting part. I got to see how the Stage Management of a Broadway show was set up, and how the ASMs support the PSMs in the long list of preshow duties. Furthermore, I got to witness the relationship between the Stage Manager and the Company Manager. It was interesting to see how they are essentially a team in terms of communicating to the producers, theatre, etc and how they bounce ideas off one another for solutions when issues arise. Lastly, I was able to learn how the box office reports were pulled, how to interpret them, and how the reports for future weeks could impact the decision to run future promotions All in all, it was a really great learning opportunity and I was extremely grateful I was offered the chance!
